High-dose intravenous vitamin C (HDIVC) has been used for many decades as a complementary and alternative therapy for cancer patients. High dose vitamin C IV therapy can selectively target cancer cells while leaving healthy cells unharmed.
Vitamin C is administered intravenously at doses of 50-100 grams two to three times per week, where it exhibits pro-oxidant activity.
That means that the purpose of the vitamin C is to kill cancer cells by interacting with iron to cause the formation of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2).
Some clinical studies have shown that HDIVC may improve quality of life and prolong survival in patients with terminal cancer.
